The First Frame

Laszlo George's latest body of work further explores the possibilities of transferring light onto canvas. The concept is informed by abstract images which result from movie cameras capturing (blurred) images before the camera has reached it's operational speed of 24 frames per second.

This exhibition is the second in a series of large format photographic images that explore abstract forms and colours created using the latest digital imaging technology. All of the images have as their starting point some reference to cinematographic still frame images…in particular the very first frame.

As a Cinematographer with many years of experience behind the lens, Laszlo George has developed an eye for colour and form unlike anyone else. His passion for light has enabled him to create images that, on first encounter, seem other worldly…perhaps the kind of minimal light one would encounter in space. The black areas that embrace the colours serve as an endless void in which these colours sparkle, float and dance.

Laszlo’s informed command of his craft has elevated abstract photography to new artistic heights.

The exhibition runs until October 24 at the HODNETT FINE ART STUDIO GALLERY at 1000 Parker Street, Vancouver.
