Biography 

 

 

Laszlo George  Born: Budapest, Hungary

Laszlo George was raised in a small village near the Austro/Hungarian border. For the first ten years of his life, Laszlo George grew up with only candles and lanterns as a source of lighting. Thus began his fascination with light.

He attended the Academy of Film and Dramatic Arts in Budapest and graduated with an Honours Degree in Cinematography. For more than 50 years Laszlo has experimented with light through cinematography in more than 100 films. (click on link to see a list)  See also: Filmography

  • The Kodak New Century Award (1995) in recognition of Lifetime Achievement in Cinematography

  • The American Society of Cinematographers (1995) Nomination for Outstanding Achievement in Cinematography for the mini series "Zoya"

  • The Canadian Society of Cinematographers Award for Best Cinematography for the TV drama "Stranger in my Bed".

  • The Kodak Spectrum Award (1999) for "Scandalous Me: The Jacqueline Susann Story"

  • Gemini Awards (1999) Nomination for Best Cinematography in a Dramatic Series for  "Scandalous Me: The Jacqueline Susann Story"

  • The Canadian Society of Cinematographers Award for Best Cinematography for the the feature "Draw"

  • Genie Awards Nomination for Best Achievement in Cinematography for "Draw".

  • Genie Awards Nomination for Best Achievement in Cinematography for "Running"

  • The Canadian Society of Cinematographers Award for Best Cinematography for the the feature "Running"

  • The Canadian Film Association Award for Best Cinematography for the "Silent Sky". This  IMAX film was exhibited at the Smithsonian Institute in Washington DC.

  • The Canadian Film Festival Award for Best Cinematography for "Homer"

During his successful career, Laszlo George has worked with some of the biggest names in the movie industry including: Michael Douglas, Joan Collins, Omar Shariff, Richard Burton, Tony Curtis, Tom Hanks, Angie Dickens, Brad Pitt, Robert Wagner, Linda Evans, Angela Lansbury, James Earl Jones and Faye Dunaway...to name but a few.

As Director of Photography, Laszlo George has worked in Canada, England, the USA, Mexico, Germany, France, Spain, Morocco, Thailand, and Australia.

When digital photography was first introduced, Laszlo participated in the initial testing and found himself at the forefront of this innovative technology. Laszlo George's latest work, large-format "still frame" images on canvas, continue to push the boundaries of this exciting fine art medium. He is an artist who constantly seeks new and innovative ways to capture light.
